About the Project
Trans healthcare is something that I have become passionate about as I've come out and as I have heard others' stories, both informally and formally. This gallery will feature a few of these stories, with the goal of spreading awareness to healthcare professionals as well as to LGBTQ+ people and allies. With increased awareness, the ultimate goal is to create a more inclusive environment in the healthcare setting.
There are a few key concepts that must be acknowledged in order to appreciate this gallery. Those concepts are that 1) gender is a social construct, and 2) gender is a relation of power.
As you tour this gallery, it is my hope that, with increased knowledge, allies and other cisgender [not transgender] individuals will be more comfortable advocating for trans people and bringing trans voices to the forefront. I also hope that trans people reading this will be more confident advocating for themselves, and recognize that we deserve the same treatment as anyone else.
